At Tectro IT, we help our clients stay safe from tech-related threats — and sometimes, that includes scams that hit close to home. This time, the scam came straight to my phone.
We break down this recent text message claiming to be from the Arkansas DMV about a traffic ticket. It used a few clever tricks — including a fake sender address, false urgency, and a link pretending to be from “arkansas.gov.” But a deeper look showed it was anything but legit.
I walk through the message in a new episode of Is This a Scam? and show you how to apply our SLAM method (Sender, Links, Attachments, Message) to spot fakes before they cause damage.
Key red flags in the message:
-
Sent from an email, not a phone number
-
Claimed traffic tickets are handled by the DMV (they’re not)
-
Nonsensical consequences (like toll booth charges)
-
A misleading link that appears legitimate
Conclusion:
Text scams are on the rise, and they’re targeting everyday Arkansans. Watch the video to see how this one breaks down — and stay safe out there.
